dance party

(edit. the music video for this song is too amazing.)

Whenever I'm driving my little cousin around I love to dance in the car because it embarrasses her. but besides the embarrassing I just think these two songs are great to dance to.

and they're not really typical dance songs so I wonder how they would go over at a "dance party." who knows.

but I think dance party playlists need to be more creative. not just those same songs from the radio you know? maybe people don't really agree with this...

"and then when Mike was getting really into Social Distortion.."

This quote is funny because it is referring to an age 5 Mike. getting all into Social Distortion. supposedly I would sit in the backseat and just bob my head to the tunes of Mike Ness and his band. blatantly influenced by my dad's music taste.

this same thing happened last night but with my cousin Amber and I. for some reason at kelly's going away dinner (tear, she flew back to new york last night) the Radiohead song "15 Step" came up. thanks to kelly's influence Amber loves this song. in the car Ams requested the song and then proceeded to get into it with some cool hand and arm movements. i think its healthy for her to take a break from the 7th grade soundtrack she listens to most of the time.

and 15 step is soo good.

"He's been building that boat for seven years that I know of. The blocks rotted out and he made concrete blocks. Every time he gets it nearly finished he changes it and starts over again. I think he's nuts. Seven years on a boat."

Doc was sitting on the ground pulling off his rubber boots. "You don't understand," he said gently. "Henri loves boats but he's afraid of the ocean."

"What's he want a boat for then?" Hazel demanded.

"He likes boats," said Doc. "But suppose he finishes his boat. Once it's finished people will say, 'Why don't you put it in the water?' Then if he puts it in the water, he'll have to go out in it, and he hates the water. So you see, he never finishes the boat--so he doesn't ever have to launch it."

the lone ranger

on my drive home from Luke's I listened to the new Air France cd and thought about something that I think about every once in a while.

should I just go alone?

I often find myself in situations where there's something I want to do but don't have anyone to go with. Tonight it was a concert at The Crepe Place (the Dutchess and the Duke). Granted I first listened to them a few days ago but they sound pretty good and I have a hard time saying no to pretty good bands playing in santa cruz when I'm here.

but thats beside the point. there's that saying that true happiness is shared. but then aren't you missing out if you don't do things just because of a lack of company?

I feel like a lot of people hold back on activities when they can't get other people to go. and I'm thinking that maybe this is just a self-conscious thing. like people will point and laugh if you go to a movie by yourself. but what's the difference? You go to a movie to see a movie, right?

I know people on both ends of the spectrum and I guess like many things its best to "have a good balance." And I guess i find myself somewhere in the middle. some activities I will do solo no problem (coffee shop, the beach) and some that I have a harder time with (the movies, concerts, eating out). although I have been wanting to start going to movies alone.

I've heard that it's really cool to travel alone. I can see how it would be cool but am not sure what my stance exactly is.

any thoughts?

screensaver!

last night I noticed that ashley had a pretty sweet tie dye screensaver and I was jealous. well I found my screensaver and you can get it here.

august

I'm thinking that August should be a great month and here's why.

August 4 (today!)
Spending the day in carmel with family. 17-mile drive!!

August 8-10
Weekend trip to Santa Barbara to visit Ian with Tim and Ashley! I love weekend trips and I haven't seen Ian for a while so this should be pretty sweet.

August 22-24
SF Outside Lands! It's not every weekend that you get to see Radiohead, Tom Petty, Wilco, etc. perform in Golden Gate Park. The only thing is I don't know anyone who is set in stone going for the weekend.  I kinda just saw the festival and immediately bought tickets and then people ended up bailing out. so... think about going to this! it will be amazing I promise. even for just one day. let me know.

among other things that don't have exact dates.

maybe getting a job
I have been taking time off since the middle of June and I'm pretty much ready for a job. right now I have 3 leads and I really feel like something will materialize this week. so we'll see.

vintage/bible study/elm st.
vintage faith is great. bible study at Anthony's is great. and serving with Render (Vintage) at Elm St. Mission is great.

acquiring a place to live in san diego
probably going to sign a lease for sept. 1 and while this isn't the most exciting thing in the world, it will be nice to have it taken care of by the end of this month.

and who knows, maybe august will be even more than the bold words!
