the lone ranger

on my drive home from Luke's I listened to the new Air France cd and thought about something that I think about every once in a while.

should I just go alone?

I often find myself in situations where there's something I want to do but don't have anyone to go with. Tonight it was a concert at The Crepe Place (the Dutchess and the Duke). Granted I first listened to them a few days ago but they sound pretty good and I have a hard time saying no to pretty good bands playing in santa cruz when I'm here.

but thats beside the point. there's that saying that true happiness is shared. but then aren't you missing out if you don't do things just because of a lack of company?

I feel like a lot of people hold back on activities when they can't get other people to go. and I'm thinking that maybe this is just a self-conscious thing. like people will point and laugh if you go to a movie by yourself. but what's the difference? You go to a movie to see a movie, right?

I know people on both ends of the spectrum and I guess like many things its best to "have a good balance." And I guess i find myself somewhere in the middle. some activities I will do solo no problem (coffee shop, the beach) and some that I have a harder time with (the movies, concerts, eating out). although I have been wanting to start going to movies alone.

I've heard that it's really cool to travel alone. I can see how it would be cool but am not sure what my stance exactly is.

any thoughts?

Its all about the who, not the what. I am a firm believer that it doesnt matter what your doing, all that matters is the company you share the experience with.

some people feel lonely when they are alone. some people feel lonely when they are with a bunch of other people.

some people feel alive when they are alone. some people feel alive when they are with a bunch of other people.

bottomline, I believe you should do what you enjoy. be it alone, if you are happy, or with people, if that makes you happy as well.
